Medical Education
One of the first universities to begin teaching at Education City was Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), a branch of the premier Ivy League university and medical school based in New York.
Established in 2002, WCMC-Q offers an innovative 2-year pre-medical program followed by a 4-year medical program that awards an M.D. degree.
One of the most beneficial aspects of Cornell's campus in Doha is that it allows talented Qatari students to get a high quality medical education without leaving home. Her Highness strongly believes that training in the locality with early exposure to patient care and research is an invaluable way for medical students to study and obtain an understanding of both local and regional medical problems.
On May 8, 2008, WCMC-Q celebrated its inaugural commencement with the graduation of 15 new doctors. Its students are already raising the standard of healthcare in Qatar.
