Her Highness Inaugurates the Pearl Exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art
January 29th, 2010 Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, inaugurated this evening the Pearl Exhibition organized by the Qatar Museums Authority as part of the functions of Doha 2010 - an Arab Capital of Culture at the Museum of Islamic Art. Her Highness toured the various sections of the museum featuring jewelry collections designed by the creativity of skilled craftsmen and containing colorful and expensive pearls dating back to more than 5000 years. Her Highness' visit consisted as well of an explanation by the exhibition officials about the pearl history in Qatar and the Gulf, the importance and the means of its extraction, and its influence on the jewelry industry and the design industry throughout history. The event was attended by a number of Excellencies, Sheikhs, ministers, members of the diplomatic corps in addition to members of the general public. The exhibition consists of more than 300 pieces of art and artifact filled with pearls in addition to a collection of possessions and unique jewelry of different pearl shapes both natural and industrial. A learning center is also set up on the sidelines of the exhibition, organizing study sessions, workshops and offering lectures educating the visitors and especially the children. This center aims as well to accord a special importance to the scientific aspect of the pearl creation process and shedding the light on its various types.
